Smokey Black is caused by a single dose of the Cream gene on a Black base.
Because the Cream gene is an incomplete dominant it does not affect black pigment unless it is present in homozygous form - in other words - a double dilute.

Smoky Black horses look like regular Black horses although some may be faded so much they appear Brown.

If you have a black horse that gives you cream offspring from non-cream partners, then you actually have a Smokey black.

Smokey black Mare:

Edens Stormin A Teacup
Lab tested to carry cream
Sire: Silver Bay
Dam: Palomino

Bred by Eden Park
Owned by Loadstar stud

Unclipped foal coat. Note the brown in the ears, she still has this
as a 2 year old.

Do you have a smokey black horse to use as an example? must be lab tested OR have a cream parent AND has thrown a cream foal from a non-cream partner (or a double dilute foal from a cream partner)
